Dr. Brian T. Andrews
Dr. Brian T. Andrews is Assistant Professor and Director of Cleft & Craniofacial Surgery at the University of Kansas Department of Plastic Surgery.
As Director of Cleft & Craniofacial Surgery, Dr. Andrews has a special focus on patients who are affected by facial birth defects and abnormalities. He collaborates with a team of expert physicians, who are trained in advanced treatments for people with cleft and craniofacial disorders. Through surgical planning and discussion, the doctors perform highly rewarding reconstructive procedures for our patients.
Dr. Andrews also facilitates research conducted by physicians at the cleft and craniofacial clinic. This includes both clinical and basic science research in areas such as speech development, language development and long term hearing outcomes.
Before joining our practice, Dr. Andrews completed a craniofacial fellowship program at UCLA in Los Angeles. He had previously completed a plastic surgery residency at Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts; and an Otolaryngology residency at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
Dr. Andrews’ professional affiliations include the American Cleft Palate Association, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Society of Maxillofacial Surgery, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (candidate member).
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, and has authored numerous articles and presentations in his field.
About the Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic
The KU Medical Center Cleft & Craniofacial Clinic offers care for all persons with a congenital or ac-quired facial deformity. The clinic is a multi-disciplinary program, staffed by experts with advanced training and interest in cleft and craniofacial disorders. Specialists staffing the clinic include physicians from specialities like plastic surgery, otolaryngology, pediatric nerosurgery, pediatric dentistry, speech & language pathology, and more.
For more than 100 years, the Cleft & Craniofacial Clinic at the KU Medical Center has provided the highest quality care to its patients. The clinic was established in 1909 by Dr. Walter Sutton. In the 1980’s, the Sutherland Institute for Facial Rehabilitation was built on the KU Medical Center campus to house the Cleft & Craniofacial Clinic. Curently, the clinic provides care for approximately 100 patients with facial deformities each year.
The focus of the clinic is to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex facial anomalies, from birth to adulthood. We specialize in treating disorders such as:
- Cleft lip and palate
- Craniosynostosis
- Atypical facial clefting
- Facial asymmetries
- Jaw abnormalities
- Vascular malformations
- Benign and malignant tumors
- Syndromes such as Apert, Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Saethre-Chotzen, and others
