Dr. Dhaval Bhavsar
Dr. Bhavsar is a burn and plastic surgeon who joined our group in 2010. He received his medical degree from NHL Medical College in India where he completed residency training in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He completed a 2-year clinical fellowship in Reconstructive Plastic Surgery from UCSD where he improved his skills in managing complex reconstructions and use of biologic and biosynthetic skin substitutes. Additionally he also completed a fellowship in Burn Surgery from UCSD Regional Burn Center, where he received training in management of complicated major burn injury patients, both adult and pediatric. Dr. Bhavsar is especially interested in complex burn reconstruction, facial reconstruction, surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation, and difficult hand injuries.
Dr. Teresa Buescher
Dr. Buescher has been in practice for plastic surgery since 1993. She is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (1995, 2004), and she’s a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Originally from Washington DC, she earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. While serving in the United States Army, she completed her General Surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and her Plastic Surgery residency at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center. From the military she gained extensive experience in burn injury, breast reconstruction, and extremity reconstruction after blast injury. She is currently an assistant professor of plastic surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her main interest is in reconstructive surgery with a special focus on breast reconstruction.
Dr. Michelle De Souza
Dr. De Souza received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from The University of Kansas and graduated from The University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2000. She completed a full general surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry/Cooper University Hospital in Camden New Jersey. Dr. De Souza is excited to be back home in Kansas, working as an assistant professor of plastic, wound, and burn surgery at The University of Kansas Hospital, where she first began her career in patient care. She is also a current member of the Kansas City Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. De Souza’s interests in plastic surgery include breast reconstruction, aesthetic breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, and body contouring.
Dr. Charles Hendrix
Dr. Hendrix has been practicing plastic surgery since 2001. Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Dr. Hendrix earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University. He then completed his general surgery residency at The University of Southern Alabama. Dr. Hendrix is a current member of the Kansas City Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Burn Association. He is currently serving as Instructor of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. During his years in practice, he has performed hundreds of breast reconstruction and breast reduction surgeries. Dr. Hendrix has a special interest in both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Richard Korentager
Dr. Korentager has been in practice since 1989 and is certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr Korentager earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto. Dr. Korentager is a published author on numerous medical topics related to Plastic Surgery. During his years in practice, Dr. Korentager has been featured on the Discovery Channel’s “Medical Miracles” and has been called on by the media many times to comment as an expert on plastic surgery. Dr. Korentager has a special interest in cosmetic surgery, reconstructive breast surgery, burn surgery and treatment of patients after weight loss.
Dr. Satish Ponnuru
Dr. Ponnuru has been in practice since 2006 and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He did his undergraduate training at Washington University in St. Louis where he completed dual degrees in Biology and Spanish. After graduating from medical school, he completed his general surgery residency and then a plastic surgery residency both at the University of Kansas. He joined the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Kansas as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in July of 2009. He runs the resident cosmetic clinic. He has a diverse practice but has a particular interest in Body Contouring after Weight Loss Surgery and laser surgery.
